Located in Berkeley, California, Ulysses Press began in 1983 with the publication of Hidden Hawaii, written by publisher Ray Riegert. Hidden Hawaii became an underground classic for travelers seeking a more authentic Hawaii. The guide's success launched the Hidden series, which now includes over 40 travel guides covering destinations in the U.S., Mexico, Central America and French Polynesia.

In the 1990s we began to publish a variety of titles on alternative health, fitness and spirituality for adults and teens. Subjects range from yoga and meditation to Pilates to the timeless and profound insights of Buddha, Lao Tzu and Jesus. Today Ulysses Press publishes approximately 40 titles a year with an active backlist of over 100 books.
